Working closely with the team at Sourcelab, Scine created a beautifully narrated interactive exhibit of early Chicago poets for the Poetry Foundation.
The soon to launch mini-site allows users to navigate a map of downtown Chicago and the surrounding area that has spawned some of America’s greatest poets of the last century. When a user chooses a place of interest the map zooms into view and a narration guides the user through a rich visual experience of photographs, poet biographies, and of course the poetry itself. The music for the narrations was generously provided by Delmark Records which has recorded Chicago blues and jazz for over 50 years and the readings of the poems are wonderful to hear.
The site has a beautifully crafted feel, and the archival material in the narrated tours is outstanding.

Scine was contacted by Thrillist.com to create a unique Flash based ad campaign for the new MINI Cooper S Clubman and were charged with making a simple image of a car follow the user’s mouse around the screen.
We decided that was just not going to be enough, using a combination of Javascript and Flash we came up with a nifty Flash car driving around the screen chasing the user’s mouse. The entire package is very tight, usable, and fun for the end users which is how it should be.
Users choose from a variety of MINI Clubman cars and drive them all around the site.
Update: 03.06.08: It Looks like people are responding well to the campaign, check out this review from innonate.com. They’ve even posted a screencast to YouTube of a test drive!

Another Scine / Hover Media joint production. Hover Media managed this piece with Scine building, coding, animating a minimal and inviting Flash web site for the talented people at wild(child) a Film & Television post production / edit studio in New York City.
The project pushed aesthetic and technical boundaries as we created a highly functional and custom content management system (CMS) for wild(child). With this system wild(child) is able to manipulate all the content in the Flash movie, upload new movies, update editors, enter new press articles, keep contact information up to date. Highly functional and branded the CMS suite is also easy to use which means Producers at wild(child) can quickly update site content to keep up with the often hectic pace their industry demands.
There is also an extensive client login / project retrieval system that was developed to run in tandem with the site, keeping their clients updated as their projects progress. But you can’t view that part of the site until you are a client of theirs; do you have a project that requires the finesse of their amazing lineup of editors?

The handheld PDA tour was created as an interpretive aid for the Detroit Industry murals permanent installation at the Detroit Institute of Art. It incorporates audio, video, photos and animations to deliver both led and interactive experiences for visitors.
The tour combines efficient interface architecture with a rich collection of content designed to be non-intrusive and flexible to the user, ultimately creating a tour that allows visitors to feel that they can immerse themselves in the murals rather than feel “captive” by the device.
This is one of the first handheld museum tours to harness the potential of the new generation of robust portable media devices like the Nokia N800. The tour allows for interactivity and delivery of video, photos and audio that before now could not be delivered without a full-fledged computer and web browser.
Sourcelab once again enlisted the coding, animation, and technical expertise of Scine to produce the Flash application that ran on the Nokia device. This was Scine’s first ‘offline’ mobile application. Many technical challenges were presented as the implementation of the Flash player on the Nokia had some shortcomings.
We developed an online version of the application, it is shown here to give an idea of the experience but pales in comparison to actually interacting with the device itself in front of the Diego Rivera murals. All media files were located on the device itself so we had a lot of flexibility in creating large animations and including large videos which load relatively slow when seen in its online incarnation. Read more to see more images of the application.

Update (10/18/07): Verb! has officially closed their doors and moved on in different directions, I have posted a replica of their site on Scine for posterity. Verb! will be missed. New Link: verb.scine.com
Verb! needed an online presence that matched the quality of their work. The result: An elegant database driven Flash website that allows them to update work samples and manage their clients’ work in a secure environment.
We also built an internal production Intranet / Extranet that allows Verb to easily compress, preview, and post movies and files to their clients for review which has become an integral part of their work flow.
All aspects of project management are handled through an Intranet website running on a Mac OSX server. The process begins with a producer creating a project on the Intranet. Once jobs have been created the server sets up folders on their internal network for their designers to work from. Movies and files can be posted to the server where they are automatically compressed and sent to back to Producers for review. From there updates to the secure client extranet are one click away greatly increasing work flow and simplifying the process of getting their work in front of clients.
Verb! Media is a motion graphics studio with some serious skills, their work is always on the cutting edge and beautifully executed. They have won numerous awards for their work with clients such as HBO, Comedy Central, and HP.

How do the hep cats keep track of an ever churning media machine? Ask the folks at Scine to build one humdinger of a website for you.
Needing to simplify and expand their file sharing capabilities, we built an easy to use system in which editors, motion graphic artists, and producers at Comedy Central can share and approve graphic assets for promo work, show graphics, and anything else they can think of.
Now, if we can only get a walk on role in the next season of South Park…

We were really excited about the opportunity to work for Hover Media on Commit Media’s site. Shannon McGarity’s designs are beautiful, well thought out, and easy to work with.
We developed the Flash interaction / animation based on Hover’s original designs and managed overall site production. Hybrid websites ( Flash and HTML ) are great, and this one really works with the benefits of both technologies together.

This was a fun project for us, Salt & Pepper Media wanted an organic handwritten feel to their site; a style that we enjoy working in.
We were able to experiment with different animation ideas in Flash, something that always makes a project interesting for us to work on.
Salt & Pepper Media are a full service video production / editting company and the owners Andy and Walter are great to work with.

An oldie but goodie. Designed by Jase Patrizio and Scine, code and animation by Scine.
We had a lot of fun with this one from concept to animation and production, and yes those waves are real. This was the first site for the original underground surf contest dubbed ‘Mavericks’. Only the top professional surfers from around the world can even begin to ride these waves and one even lost their life their. Mark Foo rest in peace.
Featured in the film ‘Riding Giants‘ Mavericks is not a break to treat lightly. Although at Scine we skateboard and snowboard we will always have respect for where our loves came from and admiration for those who challenge themselves anywhere in the ocean.
Although the site has gone through revisions with another firm, this site was nominated for a Webby award and so we have put it here for posterity.
